If you would like straighter teeth but don't want to wear metal braces, Invisalign may be just what you've been looking for. In addition to being a discreet and minimally invasive alternative to traditional metallic braces, Invisalign clear aligner trays also offer a number of benefits that make it easier than ever to invest in a straighter, healthier smile. Dr. Joseph Sachs and Dr. Robert Cruz offer Invisalign and full dentistry services in New York, NY.
A Better Smile with Invisalign
The Invisalign system consists of a series of removable trays that help to gradually shift your teeth into the desired position and alignment. Because the trays can be removed for up to two hours per day, they help to address many of the problems with braces, such as eating and practicing your oral hygiene routine. You may continue to enjoy your favorite meals and brush and floss regularly, as long as you can commit to wearing the trays for the required time every day (up to 22 hours).
Each tray is worn for approximately two weeks and then replaced with the next tray in the series to accommodate the shifting position of your teeth. Depending on your situation and dental needs, the treatment period may be shorter than with traditional braces.
One of the biggest and most obvious benefits of Invisalign is that the trays are virtually undetectable while you are wearing them, so they won't disrupt your professional and personal life or require a major adjustment to your lifestyle.

A straighter smile can be yours at any age.
It can be a big step deciding that you need to get braces. Of course, older teens are facing their high school and college years and adults are face-to-face with clients and colleagues every day. We know that they don’t want people noticing their crooked, misaligned smiles but they also don’t want to wear unsightly metal brackets and wires, either. Luckily, our New York, NY dentists, Dr. Joseph Sachs and Dr. Robert Cruz, have a better solution: Invisalign.
Instead of the metal braces you might think of when you think of getting orthodontic treatment, Invisalign offers you a nearly invisible approach to getting the straighter smile you want. Thanks to amazing computer technology, our New York general dentists can map out your entire treatment plan (which includes specific tooth movements) to give you the desired results.
From there, an Invisalign-approved dental lab will get to work creating your set of custom aligners. Each aligner is made from clear, flexible medical-grade plastic. Unlike mouthguards or whitening trays, these aligners fit close to your teeth, to provide the right amount of force to shift teeth into the proper position.
Invisalign is a great option for both older teens and adults who want to get a straighter smile but worry about the social and professional ramifications of wearing braces. We know high school years can be tough enough without having to add braces into the mix; however, Invisalign offers a way for teen and adults to get the smiles they want without ever having to wear metal braces.
The length of treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the issues you are dealing with and how extensive they are. On average, an adult can get the results they want from Invisalign treatment in about one year. Teens who choose to get Invisalign will often have a similar length of treatment to traditional braces (18 to 24 months).

Luckily, our New York, NY, cosmetic dentists Dr. Joseph Sachs and Dr. Robert Cruz offer Zoom whitening treatment to get your smile’s brightness back on track.
How does Zoom whitening work?
First and foremost, you have to choose the type of whitening treatment that will work best for you. Do you want our New York dentists to whiten your teeth from our office or do you want to whiten from your own home? If you want to get results quickly then in-office whitening will be the best approach.
When you come in for professional teeth whitening we will apply the gel over from the front of your teeth. In order to activate the ingredients within the gel we will shine a dental light over your teeth once the gel has been applied. This ensures that the active ingredient within the gel goes to work quickly, breaking up stain molecules and getting your teeth up to eight shades whiter in less than one hour.
Of course, we know that some patients prefer the convenience of whitening from home. If this sounds like you then talk to us about our take-home Zoom whitening kit. At-home whitening offers custom-fitted trays. In as little as two weeks you’ll be able to see results.

What your dentists in New York want you to know
Veneers can change your smile, and a new smile can change your life! You can achieve a beautiful smile with dental veneers. So what exactly are veneers? Your dentists at Dr. Joseph Sachs & Associates in New York, NY want to help answer that question and share the facts about veneers and how they can enhance your smile.
Veneers are of porcelain, which gives them a lifelike quality because porcelain reflects light, just like your natural teeth. They are thin laminates of high-quality porcelain which are cemented onto the front surfaces of your teeth.
The aesthetically beautiful, natural look of veneers is only one reason why veneers are one of the most popular cosmetic dental treatments. Porcelain veneers are also:
- Permanently beautiful because they resist stains and can last for many years
- Conservative because your dentist removes only minimal tooth structure, just enough to compensate for the thickness of the veneers
- Quick because it only takes two to three appointments to give you a completely new smile
Versatile because veneers can fix many aesthetic issues with your teeth, including if your teeth are:
- Cracked, fractured or damaged due to injury
- Chipped or worn down due to aging
- Discolored or stained from medications, coffee or tobacco use
Veneers can even fix teeth that are spaced apart by closing up the gaps cosmetically. Veneers can also get rid of tooth overlap by cosmetically creating the look of straight teeth.
Your veneer treatment begins with a consultation appointment, during which you and your doctor can discuss your treatment, expectations, and results. Next, your teeth will be prepared by removing only minimal tooth structure. An impression is made of your teeth and your veneers are created at a dental lab. At your final appointment, your new porcelain veneers will be cemented permanently.
If you are thinking about veneers, don’t visit just anyone. See the experts by calling your dentists at Dr. Joseph Sachs & Associates in New York, NY. Veneers can help you get the smile you deserve so call today!
A cracked tooth causes pain, and frankly, its lifespan is limited. What can you do to strengthen this damaged tooth? Your dentists in New York, Dr. Joseph Sachs and Dr. Robert Cruz, offer beautiful dental crowns that improve the aesthetics and durability of your injured tooth. Lasting many years, these reliable restorations from Dr. Joseph Sachs & Associates give new life to your smile.
The anatomy of a dental crown
A dental crown is shaped like a natural tooth and typically made of porcelain. It covers a damaged tooth from top to gum line, supporting the remaining healthy structure. Teeth which require crowns may be:
- Heavily restored with multiple fillings
- Poorly shaped
Additionally, crowns anchor fixed bridgework (composed of one or more adjoining artificial teeth) and restore dental implants, replacement teeth placed directly into the patient's jawbone. Often, a crown finishes a tooth saved by root canal therapy.
How they're placed
To see if your tooth qualifies for restoration with a crown, your New York dentist examines your mouth and takes digital X-rays to determine if there's sufficient healthy structure left to support a crown. Once he prepares and shapes the tooth, he takes oral impressions and chooses a material best suited to your tooth and its location.
Then, Dr. Sachs or Dr. Cruz may do same day dentistry on the crown. That means a digital impression may be done. This is done with a digital scanner. If so then the crown can be inserted the same day. If the situation does not indicate that, a digital impression or standard impression may be taken. The doctor will then cover the tooth with a temporary restoration to protect it while the crown is made either in the office or at a trusted dental lab. The crafting process may take a week or two, after which you return to the office for placement.
The dentist removes the temporary restoration and using a permanent adhesive, bonds the new crown over the tooth. Crowns are constructed to fit perfectly within the space and to bite together well with the opposing arch of teeth. With some minor adjustments, the treatment is complete.
Caring for crowns
You must brush twice a day and floss daily to keep the area around your crown free of plaque and tartar. Also, continue your semi-annual cleanings and exams with your dentist. He'll check the crown for wear to ensure it's doing its job properly. Also, if you grind your teeth, ask your dentist about a protective mouth guard to extend the life of your crown and your other teeth as well.
