The Benefits of Veneers

Porcelain VeneersYour best smile is just a consultation away. At Dr. Sachs & Associates in New York, Dr. Joseph Sachs and Dr. Robert Cruz improve patient smiles and personal outlooks with lifelike porcelain veneers. Made from shells of superior grade porcelain, veneers disguise the front of teeth flawed by chips, stains and other defects. They perfect your smile and strengthen it, too!

Just what are porcelain veneers?

They are tooth-shaped shells of color-matched, translucent porcelain. Veneers improve tooth color, size, length, resilience, and shape. Additionally, because they are made of porcelain, they appear, function, and feel like real tooth enamel.

If you have teeth that are healthy but don't fit in with the rest of your smile, veneers could help. Dr. Sachs & Associates' New York office provides veneers alongside a host of other cosmetic services that enhance smile appearance and allow patients to confidently show off their teeth and gums.

The treatment

It begins with you and your dentist discussing your smile objectives. Then, Dr. Sachs or Dr. Cruz will tell you how they can meet those objectives. For instance, do you wish to even tooth length? Do you want to cover deep stains? Is a chip or gap spoiling the appearance of an otherwise great smile?

Next, the dentist will examine your mouth and take X-rays. Healthy teeth and gums are prerequisites for any cosmetic service. This means that decay, gum disease, or any other issues are addressed before proceeding with a smile makeover.

If the dentist recommends veneers, he'll take oral impressions using the sophisticated iTero scanner. This apparatus eliminates sticky impression putty and cumbersome trays. Instead, it takes a series of digital images and collates them into one three-dimensional scan. This information helps create your veneers one by one for a truly customized look.

Additionally, Dr. Sachs or Dr. Cruz will remove a small amount of tooth enamel--about 1/2 mm. This reduction helps the dentist achieve the right fit for your new veneers. Don't worry. The process is comfortable, and if necessary, you'll wear temporary veneers to normalize your smile as your permanent ones are crafted.

When placed, the veneers are accurately colored with a strong bonding cement. That's right. The dentist changes the color of the adhesive in such a way that the refurbished teeth blend in perfectly with their neighbors.

Adjusting to veneers

It may take a week or so for you to become accustomed to how your veneers feel. If this occurs, feel free to call the office at any time if you have a question or concern. However, most people adjust quickly.

Patients find veneers easy to care for, too. As usual, just brush twice a day and floss carefully. Come to Dr. Sachs & Associates semi-annually for your prophylactic cleanings and check-ups, as well.
